The prostate is a gland behind the bladder and in front of the rectum inside a physiological male’s body. This gland secretes fluid to protect and maintain the health of sperm.
Common symptoms associated with impaired prostate health (such as enlarged prostate, prostatitis, and prostate cancer) are:
🧔🏻Erectile dysfunction
🧔🏼Urine retention which can increase infection risk
🧔🏽Abdominal swelling
🧔🏾Pelvic pain
🧔🏿Urinary urgency, frequency, and leakage especially at night
So how can physical therapy help with improving prostate health? In the clinic, we have observed that many patients who have prostate issues tend to have abdominal swelling, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction… collectively, we can call this pelvic congestion. Treating pelvic congestion is different for each person, but overall, treatment usually consists of swelling management behaviors, anti-inflammatory diet, manual lymphatic drainage, HRV training, biofeedback training, and exercise.
